Peter Travis

Peter specialises in banking and finance litigation, which applies the general law of contract, equity and property, together with consumer-protection and credit-regulation statutes, to credit disputes involving the enforcement of mortgages, guarantees and securities, and contests over caveats and priorities.

Peter represents and advises parties, including alleged accessories, at every stage of regulatory enforcement, from pre-proceeding investigations and examinations to final hearings on liability and penalty. Peter also advises on regulatory compliance, including design and distribution obligations, target market determinations, responsible lending obligations, and unfair contract terms.

Peter is briefed almost exclusively in commercial disputes, regularly acting in claims involving minority shareholder oppression, breaches of directors’ duties, restraints of trade, and misleading or deceptive conduct.

In addition to representing his clients at mediation, Peter is an accredited mediator (AMDRAS), retained by parties seeking to resolve their commercial disputes without resort to the expense and uncertainty of a trial.
